This is a great store for specialty items, but way too expensive to be our only grocery stop. We have lucked out with some sales and really appreciate coupons. I agree with other reviewers that the service could be improved. I always leave feeling like, "I'm sorry I'm not as cool as you!"

Madison Market seems to be the only "true" coop I can find in Seattle. Their employees are super friendly and they have a great selection. Organic produce prices are really good as well. If it weren't within walking distance, however, I do not think I would shop there.

I've been frequenting the co-op since the old days on 12th (our membership number is 2 digits long). I've never been a huge fan of the set up at Madison market (or the surly cashiers) but they carry a very nice assortment of veggies and i love the meat section with actual good meats for sale. nice wine selection as well. Probably a bit harsh to only give 3 stars but they really do need to provide attitude classes for their cashiers. also awesome chinook book coupons.

It's great that the Co-op continues to offer a decent coupon in the Chinook Book. The variety is great, and quality good, too.
The sale prices can be really great, making the deals better than at a large grocery. But, normally things are too expensive for us.
Service is only mediocre, and like some of the other reviewers, I'd like to see a bit better labeling with regards to origin.

Madison Market is a great co-op, with a sweet deli, great baked goods, and a generally broad selection. The produce section is usually great, with good variety while still reflecting seasonality. My only, main complaint: they don't label origin of produce. Regular labeling of origin, allowing me to choose locally-grown produce over non, would see me bumping them up to the "Excellent" category.

This is the place I shop for groceries in Seattle. The selection is usually fantastic, the prices comparable or cheaper to other natural foods market and the employees are pretty friendly. The fact that it is a Co-Op, controlled by its members and not a for profit business, gives me the confidence that the products and services offered have been chosen with my best interests in mind. If not, I can show up to a member meeting and tell them to change. Try doing that at Whole Foods!
My biggest complaint is that the origin of the produce is rarely labeled. I like to buy local or at least as close to home as possible. If this would improve I would rate this merchant Excellent.
