I am an avid supporter of Fair Trade, and I think that Ten Thousand Villages is the best place to go in Portland for Fair Trade gifts, rugs and furniture. Among other things, I got an awesome international cookbook there!

No doubt about it: TriMet is "Excellent." I have lived traveled all over the country, and few cities have comparable transit systems. The downside is that fares have gone up in recent years. Since I graduated from PSU, I no longer have my student TriMet pass; now, I ride the bus only rarely, to save money!

I have been to Hankins many times, always with great success. There is always someone there who can help. It is a pretty small shop, and once or twice, they did not have the item that I was looking for. Still, those times, they happily directed me to another place.

Top notch breakfast food -- so delicious!! The service is friendly, too. They do not talk much about sourcing "sustainable" foods, so I cannot speak to that. Maybe they do it a lot, maybe they do not. Nonetheless, highly recommended.

People's is a great place to shop for food! Their produce is the best, their groceries are wonderful, and I think that all of their prices beat the other natural/organic/local food stores in town.

This is a good place to get some tasty, cheap eats in Southeast. The atmosphere is fun, and they have outdoor seating in the back. They always have a daily special, which I often try.

One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. The food tastes amazing, is great for you, and is very reasonably priced.

I got a new hybrid here for riding around town. They took good care of me and my bike. They have big sales periodically -- watch for them.

Flexcar is very convenient. I don't own a car, and this lets me pay hourly for a car just when I need one for shopping, or something. And it includes gas and insurance. And I just heard that they are merging with Zipcar, and that this could mean more convenient technology in their cars. Highly recommended!

The Alberta Co-op has great produce and some good deals on bulk food. If you live nearby, I highly recommend stopping by and including it in your places to go for grocery shopping.

I love New Seasons -- they have great food and awesome people. The deli is especially yummy, with locally sourced meats & cheeses, and great salads and stuff. This location is particularly convenient for North and Northeast, right on Interstate and the MAX Yellow Line...and close to the Fred Meyer, in case you need to go there, too.
