You can find some good deals if you try, but the Northwest of Portland is primarily full of pricey restaurants. Laughing Planet is good if you're on a budget. I came from southern CA and was used to eating Mexican food all the time. I would recommend Laughing Planet's chicken burrito over the other places in the area. The chicken is of really high quality and overall it's a good, tasty burrito with high quality ingredients. They even won the BEST award last year for commitment to sustainable practices in sourcing, preparing and serving food. Plus they have a shrine devoted to Frank Zappa, how can you go wrong?

I agree with the posts that have rated Laughing Planet differently based on location. The food quality at the NW location seems to have slipped a bit, whereas the Mississippi location is consistently good.

Laughing Planet is one of those distinctive Portland locales. A huge menu with tons of veggie and vegan options, bright colors, and cheap prices. I wish I liked the food a little more, but I can't get too excited about these uber-Americanized rice+bean+veggie burritos. It's cheap and quick though, and it's a decent place to grab a bite on your Belmont stroll.
