June 04, 2009 The CoG is a developing cooperative grocery. Members work a brief monthly shift and pay a refundable deposit when joining. The money goes to pay for the collective capital. Because they are still developing, the shelves are not always stocked as well as Americans are accustomed to. But there are many advantages to belonging to the CoG including: online ordering (pick-up your groceries pre-boxed at their Emeryville location). The CoGr warehouse is a drop off for a CSA box, so you can grab your groceries and fresh vegies at the same time. Childcare is (usually) provided while you shop. And the members do a lot of research to try to find the most local and sustainable brands. Working directly with farmers, they have started carrying bulk items (rice, oats, flour, raising, nuts, etc) at good prices.
