The Ecology Center is a fantastic Berkeley resource. They're the ones who run the curbside recycling program, but beyond that, they're really trying to do all they can to help you be green. You can call or walk-in with any questions you might have, and if they don't already know the answers, they'll find them for you. I highly recommend participating in a Climate Change Action group, a series of four meetings where you really dig deep to see what more you could be doing to help save the planet. They're free at the Center or they'll help you organize your own in your community (and after you finish, you get a free membership!). Also check out their awesome free quarterly magazine, Terrain (full disclosure, I write for it regularly. It's still awesome). Available at the Berkeley Farmer's Markets, which they also run (and elsewhere around town). Is there anything these guys aren't doing to save the planet?

The Ecology Center has a lovely store on San Pablo near Dwight Way. They carry a variety of goods to help green your life, from stainless steel water bottles to natural pest repellents, cover crop seeds, lighting, natural paints and cleaners, and books, books, and more books. In fact, they have a library on-site where you can sit down in a comfy chair and read from their extensive collection. They also house the Bay Area Seed Interchange Library, organize the Berkeley Farmer's Markets, and host a regular series of informative lectures. Check out their website and their store. Better yet, become a member!
