Maybe you’re like me and use the Chinook Book for the obvious coupons at the grocery store. Or, worse, you mean to but never seem to have the right coupons at the right time. So I’m posting this just in case you almost missed out on one of my favorite Chinook Book finds.
My husband, a recovering public school English teacher, considers Ken Kesey’s Sometimes a Great Notion among his top five favorite books of all time. And he’s read more books than a lot of people I know combined. You’d know this if you’ve ever helped us move. But I digress.
Not only does Matt love this book, he is a huge fan of the main character Henry Stamper. Sam came very close to being named after him. When we were doing the hospital tour, the teacher suggested the dads think of some special thing they want to say to their baby the moment they meet them. Without hesitating my normally serene husband yelled, drill-sergeant style “Never give a inch!”
“I think it’s an inch,” someone suggested helpfully, looking quizzically at her neighbor as if thinking, “and this guy’s teaching our kids English?”
“Oh, it’s from a book, Sometimes a Great Notion. Required reading,” he nodded, grinning. So while other children across the country are getting put to sleep with “Goodnight Moon” and “I Love you Forever” our little guy is getting tucked in with tales of this remarkable logging family from Oregon.
For good reason, Portland Center Stage, is an adults only kind of place, so as soon as we find a sitter for little Sammy, we are so there! As new parents and with me trying to launch my writing business from home, imagine my delight finding coupons for a play! And not just any play, but this great masterpiece of Ken Kesey’s adapted by Aaron Posner.
Check out the coupons for some serious savings in your Chinook Book in the “Entertainment and Family” section. For more information, visit Portland Center Stage’s web site.
