Master Gardeners are trained by UC Cooperative Extension to help residents with gardening questions. Call the plant doctor hotline at 510-639-1371 or try acmg.ucdavis.edu. The UC Botanical Garden showcases a large collection of plants from around the world, including Mediterranean climate areas (510-643-2755). The Regional Parks Botanic Garden at Tilden Park features native plants from throughout the state. Nursery plants are sold April through December, with a large sale held each April (510-841-8732. nativeplants.org).

The Ecology Center through the Eco House offers workshops on permaculture, native plants, composting and tours of their gray water system. The Bay Area Seed Interchange Library is a library of native seeds which can be “checked out” in exchange for a return crop of seeds from your grown plant. Berkeley Community Gardening Collaborative is a resource for getting an edible plot, and Oakland Community Gardens is accessible through the Oakland Park Department. Try sharing a plot with a neighbor or friends!
