PLAY: Book Reading: Tuna: A Love Story
One of the most acclaimed narrative writers and artists of marine life at work today, Richard Ellis makes this welcome Elliott Bay return for his most recent book, Tuna: A Love Story (Knopf). "With all the authority and grace for which his writings are renowned, Richard Ellis offers up an impassioned plea to protect and save one of the deep ocean's loveliest creatures. His scrupulously considered view—that our very modern craving for sushi and sashimi has caused us to love the endangered Atlantic bluefin tuna unwisely and much too well—needs to be firmly remembered." This event is open to the public. For more information please call 206-624-6600.

PLAY: Second Annual Donkey Creek Chum Festival
Every year since 1972, the Gig Harbor Commercial Fisherman's Club has incubated salmon eggs at Donkey Creek, releasing over 1 million smelt into Gig Harbor Bay. Each fall, mature salmon find their way from the open sea back to Austin Estuary, fighting their way up the culvert and into Donkey Creek to spawn. In celebration of this annual event, the Fisherman's Club, the City of Gig Harbor, Harbor WildWatch environmental group, the Gig Harbor Canoe and Kayak Club and many other local organizations have teamed up with one goal in mind - saving the salmon for future generations.
