Try making all-natural pest control sprays at home before reaching for the toxic synthetics.
Use a soap spray to control box elder bugs, mites and aphids: Mix 1 tablespoon castile or Ivory soap in one gallon of water. Spray on infested plant parts. OurWaterOurWorld.com has a database of non-toxic treatments searchable by pest and includes a free “ask the expert” service for your tough questions. If you do have synthetic pesticides and/or fertilizers, you can dispose of them at your local Household Hazardous Waste facility. For information see StopWaste.org.
