Go: New Year's Day on Diablo
What could be a better start to the New Year than to join the traditional ride up Mt Diablo? Weather permitting, there will be hundreds of friends representing all East Bay bicycling organizations at the summit. BART operates 4-trains/hr on Jan 1. The first train from west of the hills arrives at Walnut Creek BART at 8:45a (Lv Lake Merritt at 8:19a). Either follow someone or use EBBC's Map 2: East of the Hills to navigate California and San Ramon Blvds to the poorly maintained Mt. Diablo Scenic Boulevard past the Athenian School, then climb Southgate to the Junction where the gradient increases to the top. Descend Northgate, returning for Mexican lunch and ale on Locust St in Walnut Creek.
January 1, 8:45am–2pm
Contra Costa County
